Lightning Baseball vs. Lakeland Renegades @ St. James High School

On Sunday morning, the Lightning 13’s took on the Lakeland Renegades (Florida) at St. James High School. From the 1st inning on, Jason Federico (Wakefield, MA) controlled the game both on the mound and at the plate. Federico, batting third in the lineup, stroked a two out double in his first at-bat as he then gave way to Sean Gannon (Sudbury, MA) who appeared as his courtesy runner. Evan Bunker (Topsfield, MA) tripled in Gannon to put the Lightning on top 1-0. Offensively, Connor Lyons (Bedford, NH), Gavin Mahoney (Winthrop, MA) and Bunker led the way as the three combined for seven hits and seven runs batted in.

The Lightning defense was headed by Connor Lyons (Bedford, NH) who made a “web gem” in center field, and a gutty performance by Federico who went the distance, allowing only five hits and one walk. The Renegades scored once in both the 5th and 6th innings to bring the final score to 7-2 in favor of the Lightning.
