West Bridgewater 13U AAU New England Regional Tournament
To begin the final weekend of the New England Regional Tournament, the Lightning 13’s defeated Team New England from Lawrence, MA 10-1 on Saturday afternoon to advance to West Bridgewater where the original number of 40 teams dwindled down to the final four. Greg Ladd (Danvers) got the win with 6 strikeouts in 5 solid innings, boosting his team lead in that category to 29 K’s in 30 innings of work. He also scored 3 runs at the plate. His battery mate, Geoff Lynch (Georgetown), contributed with 2 runs by way of 3 walks and a hit. In all, 7 different players scored at least one run in the victory.
The Lightning 13’s secured a spot in the finals with a 9-2 win over the Mass Pride (West Bridgewater, MA) on Sunday morning. Jason Federico (Wakefield) extended his win streak to a perfect 6-0 on the season with 6 strike outs, 0 walks, and only 4 hits allowed. Offensively, Lynch and Evan Bunker (Topsfield) led the way with 2 runs a piece. With his 2 hits, Lynch increased his team leading batting average to a lofty .479. As was the case in Saturday’s game, 7 different players scored at least one run.
Lightning Baseball seized the NEAAU regional title by shutting down the high-powered offense of the Frozen Ropes from Franklin, MA who, earlier in the day, scored 15 runs against a solid Rhode Island Tides ball club. Kyle Levesque (Manchester, NH) allowed only 1 run over 5 innings while Michael Amaral (Tewksbury, MA) finished the game with 2 scoreless innings of relief work. The Lightning offense continued to roll as Chris Splinter (Middleton) had a 3 hit game with 3 runs scored. Adding to the 11-1 victory were Bunker (2 runs), Lynch (2 runs), and Dan “Mad Dog” Maddox (Bedford, NH) who scored twice and provided a number of clutch hits throughout the tournament.
