Tufts University 14U AAU New England Regional Tournament
Starting from an original field of 37 teams from NH, RI and MA the final 16 teams gathered at Tufts University over this past weekend. The Lightning 14’s opened with an 11-0 win over the Dugout Dawgs from Hyannis, MA. Ron Wallace (Tewksbury), was the winning pitcher allowing only one hit over four innings in a game shortened by the 10-run rule. TJ Larivee (Salem) was 2-2 with an RBI, Hunter Gordon (Swampscott) and Anthony Morlani (Wilmington) had 2 RBI’s each.
Lightning Baseball defeated Thunder Baseball, from Peabody, MA) 6-0 to reach the final four. Andrew Belmonte (Beverly) pitched six shut out innings of allowing only 1 hit while striking out six. Offensively Lightning Baseball was led Josh Band (Peabody) who was 1 for 2 with three runs scored, Anthony Morlani (Wilmington) 1 for one with 2 runs scored, Sam Clark (Andover) and Ron Wallace (Tewksbury) added 2 hits each.
In the semifinals Lightning Baseball defeated Ballplayers from Worcester, MA 14-4. Sam Clark (Andover) was the winning pitcher. Offensively the Lightning were lead by Andrew Belmonte, Beverly who tripled off the wall in right center field, Band who was 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored, Morlani who was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and Michael Squires of Hampton, NH who was 3 for 3.
The Lightning 14’s captured the AAU New England Region championship with a 5-0 win over the East coast Breakers of Bridgewater. Hunter Gordon (Swampscott) pitched a complete game 3 hitter en route to the victory. John Vigliotti (Amesbury) broke open a tight 1-0 with a 2-run bases loaded single in the 4th inning. Larivee and Band each contribute RBI hits, Larivee a double and band a single and Morlani chipped in with 2 more hits.
